Best of '10

it's time once again for us to turn our heads at look at that cutie across the street what has gone wrong and what hasn't in the past 12 months.

i give you the very much overdue 5 highlights of 2010. have a wonderful year ahead my dear readers! *throws confetti*

1) research methods, a.k.a AB213 (Jan-Apr)

team pda at bedok

with the aim of providing students "with a fair understanding on how research tools are applied in the market place to help managers make decisions", this module which i took in the first half of the year lasted for 4 months. it was the most meaningful project i've done. uber fun while it lasted
  • five fun facts:
  1.  we did an almost full-fledge research titled "A Lifestyle Study in Singapore: Public Display of Affection (PDA)". we studied factors that affect one's acceptance of pda and they include gender, race, age and some personal values such as individualism vs collectivism

  2.  we settled on this topic after being rejected twice on past proposals such as factors which affect library visit behaviour.

  3.  5 of us in a group waved bye bye to a good night's sleep a few days before submission. we camped in a tutorial room, used the projector system to watch Where Got Ghost (aka 吓到笑) while enjoying instant noodle for supper.

  4. 403 set of questionaires were collected and we had enough evidence to conclude that women and older people have lower degree of acceptance towards PDA. no surprises there. the rest of the results? 4 of 7 of our hypothesis were invalid.

  5. all that hardwork and staying up all day really paid off. i got an A for this module.

2) that nike bag i wanted so much

bag on the left bottom dark corner. the only decent photo of it in stock

i'm not sure to call it my brother's bag or my bag but i traded it with my crumpler PLUS my old red nike. this is as crazy as i can get over a bag with a swoosh on it. conincidentally, my sis bought me another new nike bag.
  • five fun facts:
  1. it is old. very old. only my brother knows the actual age.

  2. so far i've only spotted one person carrying the same bag, and that is only through a photo posted on facebook.

  3. it has a red string tied on top. my mom got the red string from the temple years ago and my bro decided to tied it there. i misplaced mine.

  4. if there is one thing i would like the bag to have, it would be bigger capacity. but then the bag wouldn't look as sporty as it is if that's the case. so it's perfect as it is, apart from being old and worn out.

  5. i spent over S$10 bucks fixing the suctures on the carrying pads of the bag. am prepared to spend another S$10 should it fail me again.

3) aia (June-July)

12 weeks of the deathly morning march in the tunnel leading to that workplace at robinson road later, i end up with 2 burnt shirts and a pair of very bruised feet.

  • five fun facts:
  1. honestly, i think their HR department is really good. they have drinks vending machine free for the employees. choose coffee and the machine will grind coffee beans on the spot, i.e. not instant coffee mix. the machine also spits on paper cups complete with stirrer. they also have hot chocolate and many other good stuff. yes, i am that easily bought over.

  2. i drank a lot of coffee to stay awake. one in the morning, one after lunch and if time allows, one right before knocking off.

  3. the bulk of my work revolves around excel spreadsheets. i consider my biggest assignment to be updating and compiling the appendix for a certain report to be submitted to a certain government body.

  4. my biggest accomplishment? my supervisor handed some problematic spreadsheets and instructed me to sniff out the problem. when i did manage to do just that, she happily chirped that i could be a detective :D

  5. i absolutely love their dress-down friday policy. i make do with sneakers, jeans and polo, or sometimes a nice collared shirt if i'm in the mood to dress up.

4) sat on a chair in the piano ensemble

i seriously cannot believe that it is all over.

  • five fun facts:
  1. probably the most atas position i've accepted. i applied for vice-chair but somehow got promoted along the way.

  2. i have to confess that i wasn't entirely ready for what was thrown at me and i wasn't as committed as i know i should have (e.g turning up for only a few masterclasses, which i didn't like to begin with ) BUT i did gave my best at everything else, e.g. turning up for almost all concert invitations by external parties.

  3. epic failed moment? waited outside the concert hall with my school's dean (the vip for our concert) for near 5 minutes while throughout that 5 minutes, inside the concert hall, the audience was standing and waiting for the arrival of the dean.

  4. epic glorious moment? being offered a vice-chair position in one of the 3 major student clubs for the next academic term, upon my retirement. obviously i've rejected that offer.

  5. most omg moment? when my logistic officer called me while i was in a middle of a class to tell me that our piano fell from a lorry while being transported.

5) room to the left on the top floor

view form the top floor

unlike the closet room under the staircase (read: mister potter's room), this place, fully equipped with an attached bathroom and walk-in wardrobe, is kinda cosy. it is also the place to blame should anything big ever happen to my grades (i'm just praying that it'll maintain. hallelujah).

  • five fun facts:
  1. i was gonna say that the room has bad sound-proofing. frankly speaking, it has none. tried, tested, proven.

  2. planted next to a 24-hour mamak and the most famous nasi lemak store in town i.e. peaceful night not guaranteed. i have no idea why but this point reminds me of the sexless innkeeper from HIMYM, if you get what i mean.

  3. 6 out of 7 days, it seems like a nasty tornado had just ran over the contents inside. that one day remaining occurs when the owner decides to bring the roomba for a run. that, or one kind passionate soul decides to help in cleaning.

  4. sometimes i trap myself in it for a few days straight and bury myself with work.

  5. it houses one cow, one chipmunk, one blue alien, two hamsters, one dinosaur, one pig and many other mystical creatures.

more facts to add to the bag:-

i) i bought it right before i flew back from aus...mayb dec 2006.
ii) the nike shop where i bought it from is no more there.
iii) it cost about 80-100 aus dollar, if my memory serves me right. The price tag is probably still in the bag. There's a hidden zip at the netting part. Check it out.
iv) this old nike bag is cooler than ur new nike bag..hands down :D
