part 2
and double oh mm gee.
they came back before i managed to get past stage 1 of sleeping (which is that darn stage where you'll get awaken easily). it was well past midnight and obviously, from the activities and whisperings, they didn't seem to be sleeping anytime soon. and then i went through this Escape the Room contingency plan in my head for 30 minutes or so, hoping that i'll get lost somewhere in thoughts and drift away to that darn stage 2 or 3 sleeping.
unfortunately, it didn't happen. to make this more interesting, let me tell you what was in that contingency plan. firstly, i thought of packing some books and proceeding straight to the study room. i could spend a few hours there, and pray that they'll be sound asleep by the time i get bored of the books. and immediately i whipped out my phone to check with my friend if the study room was still open (it was, by the way).
the other alternative was to get another room, which i expect would be a lil on the difficult side as it was already past midnight. nevertheless, i tried my luck on a few candidates (; against all odds, one, who was about to sleep, agreed to take me in for the night.
that meant i have two choices - to study or to sleep elsewhere. i went for the latter because the former was too risky. imagine, going away to study for hours only to come back to the starting point, i.e. they're still up and talking.
it took about 10 minutes or so to arrive at the decision. so i woke up quite abruptly from my bed and went straight to the washroom to clear my mind for a bit, to decide what to pack, to prep for tomorrow's morning lecture. i don't know if the sight of me suddenly waking up from a (supposedly) sound sleep startled them or what, but throughout my packing process, they remained rather silent. gosh, it was awkward to the max, with me walking around the room to get toothbrush, clothes to change etc.
after all that, still in my (presentable) pyjamas, i left the room and headed towards my friend's room, which is on other side of the campus, a good 15 minutes walk away. feeling lightheaded from the attempt to sleep, i jaywalked all over the empty roads, thinking what the freak was i doing, kicking myself out of my room in the middle of the night, only to get more a peaceful room to sleep in.
there you have it - probably the craziest thing i've done this semester. but it was good to know they're people out there (other than the family) who'll offer a place for me to sleep in when such circumstances pop up from nowhere.
then you may ask, what difference does it make when you're effectively making your host repeat the same as what she did, i.e. inviting a friend to stay over ?
big difference. firstly, i know both the residents of the host room personally, which is different from the one in her case - i don't know that invited friend personally. secondly, i don't stay up til the sun rises. i go to the host room, explain my situtation, give my thanks, and sleep.
then you may say, you're so hard to please lo!
now now, IF she and the friend were to go to bed at reasonable hours, i can assure you that i would not have to go through all these. even more so in light of the reason that friend had to overnight - that it was too late to catch the last bus/train/taxi whatever.
in fact, i do identify with that point on catching the last bus/train/taxi. been there, done that. a pain in the rear indeed.
comments/hate mails/wise words of advice are very much welcome.
