1730 hrs at LT12

and so i went to a talk earlier this evening. or rather a dialogue, given the interactivity between the very engaging speaker and the audience. credits have to be given to the speaker for making me utter a word or two on my opinion on certain matters. many lecturers and tutors fail at this.


given the topic, i did expect the lecture theatre not to be filled fully. it was half occupied. in fact, i think half of the audience were members of the organizing club - the sociological society. nevertheless, a very vocal group of audience, i like.


you'll need a broad mind to take in the issues. it's interesting that the speaker posed this question:-

let's say you're married. given the choice, would you rather your husband/wife cheat on you with a lady or a man?

surprise surprise. most would rather their partner cheats with someone of the same gender, i.e. husband with a man, wife with a lady.

one stated the reason being: well if he's cheating with another lady, it means i'm not satisfying him as a woman. the speaker then pointed out that older ladies he met have this to say: at least when he's with a man, he won't be bearing a child with him.

i'm intrigued. i mean, it's a problem of fidelity (or lack of) and you still have time to consider the ego part?

another went like this:-

speaker : and what would you do if your child decides to quit...to leave your religion?
boy        : i would literally kill him.

seriously?

anyway, i like his framework with the 3 points of view - the ideal society, the societal norm and the science. in the ideal, we have equal rights, this and that. in the norm, we reject anything that's not ordinary. in the science, well, it's proven real and innate.
