One 2 million

Went to bed late yesterday because I was fascinated by this show at Discovery Channel - One 2 Million.

If you're a fan of numbers or maths (like me), this is the show for you. Sadly, the show isn't that popular so googling the title won't work.

Anyway, in yesterday's episode they talked about unlucky numbers like 13, 4, 24 and 14, in a funny way, like how the Chinese population is so pantang about some numbers. You know lar, 4 sounds like the word die in mandarin as well as cantonese, 24 would mean easy to die, 14 means must die.

What I like most about the show is their IQ questions. And because I'm feeling boh liao now, I'm posting the questions here.

Q1: A farmer bought a sack of grain, a chicken and a fox ( I have no idea why the farmer would buy a fox. what the heck.) He's on his way back and his farm is on the other side of the river.
This boat he has, it's very special one, can only fit at most 2 items at one time. Yes, this farmer must cross the river with that special boat of his.
How can he get all the 3 goods safely back to his farm?

Safely as in uneaten, because if you leave the fox with the chicken, and cross the river with the sack of grain first, the fox would get hungry and the chicken would mati lar. Same goes for the sack of grain and the chicken.

The farmer is a very strong and healthy fler, therefore he could make as many trips across the river as he needs. And no, the animals and the sack of grain don't row boats.


Q2: There's 2 identical doors in front of you, one leads to eternal happiness and another leads to some place you wouldn't wanna be at. One guard is placed at each of the 2 doors, that makes 2 guards right? Only the door guards know what is behind their doors, you don't know who is guarding which door.

Let's say you wanna choose the door that leads to eternal happiness with the happily-ever-after ending, but you could only ask one question, to any one of the guards.
Wokay, the tricky part is, one of the guards loves to lie (means if the answer is suppose to be a 'yes', he would say no.) and the other is an honest fler.

What is the one question that can lead you to the right door?

The honest guard's answer is clear. The liar however is forced by the question to lie two times and thus speak the truth.

Whatever the answer is, it should always be negated. Really.
