Lai Chi Peng!

I'm surrounded by Hokkiens.

Oklar, it could be Hokkien-speaking people, but oh well...since they know how to speak Hokkien, call them Hokkien only lar. I dunno why lar, it's kinda amusing finding out if someone you know is Hokkien, Hakka, KongSai, KongDong, HoiNam, Japanese, Korean, Chinese etc. etc.

Okok, back to my topic of the day. Hokkien. The most amusing one would be the time when Mrs T (my math II teacher who's driving a new X-Trail. Teachers who drive SUV are so cool I tell you) accidentally used Hokkien while teaching math. We were doing probability.

Mrs T: ...but of course, getting a number 3 on a die depends on luck also lar. Who knows that day you so suay, throw 10 times also cannot get a 3.....

Me: o.O?? suave? sway?

I'm not Hokkien lar. And of course, later I found out suay means..erm...bad luck? Sounds cool to me. Suave.

Then Mrs A used Hokkien too. But not in class lar.



Oh, a few of my friends know the big H language also. At MickeyD:

pK: .......could you ask how much that Gingy is?... (something along this line lar)

Maha: Jialat lar. *walks off to ask*

Throwing a word from a language I don't know sounds cool to me also.

Oh and of course, you could always check out correct usage of the H language at the oh-so-fun-2-play Maple Story, where they spend the day killing shrooms and mushmoms.

Player B: u cc lar saibu!!! CB!!!

Once, the swearing was so bad in there that they don't allow players to type C followed by B anymore. KNS CB is Hokkien, CC is not ok? CC stands for change channel, not credit card btw. Kids these days...
