Bunsen burner, asbestos mat and a crucible.
Today, is a memorable day indeed. Something happened til I can't wait to blog it out!
Ok. This morning went to school to do some Bio experiment on soil analysis. Everything was going ok until we reach the experiment on organic matter content. For those who don't know, to determine the organic matter content, we need to burn and kill off all the yuckie lil organisms in a soil sample right?? So we burn it in a crucible (mangkuk pijar) lar.
Burn, burn, burn....then! this Abang the pembantu makmal (don't know what to call him lar. Pakcik sounds old for him) came and said something like " Oi! asbestos mat ada kenapa tak guna?? " and told us that we should heat the crucible with the asbestos mat as the lapik , which means you don't direct heat the crucible but heat the asbestos directly on top of the Bunsen burner, then only put the crucible on top of the asbestos mat. Walao..that time he sound so experienced you know. We thought for the asbestos mat, we were suppose put on the table so that you won't damage the table when you put hot stuff on it mah, but nooooo.. he insisted that he's right.
Oklor. Maybe he's right lar, since he's been a pembantu makmal for we don't know how long. Let's burn the asbestos mat together!!
After like a few seconds ( the reaction damn fast I tell you), the asbestos like cannot tahan the heat and started emitting some funny-smelling smoke. We called the smart Abang lar. He came and checked it out, put his face real close to the Bunsen burner, wondering why his idea was going wrong.
WRONG MOVE!!!! As if timed, the whole thing went KABOOOM!!! (actually only a very loud "POP!". but just for the effect lar) His whole face turned black!!! Just kidding. Anyway, the burned soil flew everywhere, even the lid for the crucible flew off. And there we have it. A chun asbestos mat with a hole.

Hi Yugi,
I've forgotten what was the 'official' name we used in our lab report but googling 'lab tripod' will yield results for the support thingy 'put below the crucible'.
i think i knew it already...
is that clay triangle?
hehe...
